Detailed Description:
Fish oil supplements (EPA/DHA) play an important role in fertility promotion through several mechanisms. Fish oils are a rich source of essential omega-3 fatty acids which are precursors of powerful anti-inflammatory chemicals in the body. If you are taking a prescription or OTC prenatal vitamin that includes essential fatty acids, please be advised that most prenatals emphasize DHA and do not contain the therapeutic levels of EPA that we recommend and feel are most helpful in cases of infertility. They may wish to consider PrenatePro or the addition of Pure Omega to their current prenatal regimen.
- Fish oil (especially EPA) reduces inflammation in the body. Inflammation is associated with endometriosis, poor uterine environment and potentially even early miscarriage.
- Fats in our diet determine the quality of our cell membranes, and studies have shown that the eggs that fail to fertilize in IVF tend to have higher levels of saturated fats and lower levels of healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats.
- Pregnant and nursing mothers can have a great impact on the intelligence and happiness of their babies by supplementing with fish oil. For adults, omega 3 improves memory, recall, reasoning and focus. You'll swear you're getting younger and smarter. Since it helps with brain function, developing babies will benefit too!
- Fish oil has been shown to "alleviate" the symptoms of depression, bipolar and psychosis.
- Protection from stroke and heart attack. When plaque builds up on arterial walls and then breaks loose, it causes what's known as a thrombosis, which is a fancy way of saying clot. If a clot gets stuck in the brain, it causes a stroke and when it plugs an artery, it causes a heart attack. Research shows omega 3 fatty acids break up clots before they can cause any damage.
- Women in the pre-conception and pregnancy are warned to limit their intake of fatty fishes – the main source of these omega-3 fatty acids so supplements are important.
- Vegetarian sources of omega-3’s are present but are less bio-available than fish oil. Some vegetarian sources of these fats, flax oil for instance, come with a healthy dose of phystoestrogens (estrogen-like chemicals found in plants that can impact reproductive hormone function). Chia seeds are a great vegetarian source of omega-3s.
- Avoid over-supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids. Several studies suggest high levels of omega-3s may impair egg quality. Our upper limit for EPA/DHA supplementation is a total of 1500 mg per day (< 1000mg EPA and <500 mg DHA).

Our EPA-DHA supplements are independently tested by third-party laboratories to verify purity. In addition to this testing, the formulas are subjected to in-house testing at different points in the production process and assayed to confirm the lowest possible: peroxide and anisidine values, dioxin and PCB levels, and levels of lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic. No omega-3 material is used unless it was purity certified by a third-party laboratory.
