A note about supplement quality that bears mention. It may sound like a bunch of marketing hooey, but quality does count. In our search for the right line of vitamins we had experiences that made us shiver. One (well respected) provider actually boasted to us that he was designing his prenatal vitamin to cost less than the insurance co-pay that women pay for prescription prenatals. When we asked him what kind of iron he was going to use, and whether the calcium would be easily absorbable he looked at us like we had eight heads. Quality, absorbability and digestibility clearly did not figure into his bottom line. Buh-bye.
Of the greatest importance, in our opinion, is that as well as containing the most easily absorbed and most digestible forms of nutrient, every single batch of the raw materials used for our vitamins is tested three times to ensure that the product is free of contaminants, pcbs, dioxins, heavy metals, etc. Since the supplement industry is unregulated, many companies simply trust the Certificate of Analysis brought by the vendor instead of testing the actual ingredients they put in their formulas. When tested, more than 10% of raw material comes in contaminated and must be turned away. A contaminant-free product is especially important in pregnant women, and those on fertility treatment.
As with any supplement regimen you should ALWAYS consult your physician before starting.
Even prescription prenatals are not tested with this kind of rigor - and until they are we will stick with what we've got. So what you see here may be more expensive that Costco or Walgreens, but we can vouch for the purity and high-quality of our nutritionals.
